POS system for newsagents

Fast checkout in the morning rush, and knowing which titles sell.

A till for your newsagent's that handles the morning rush

With the Onlinefact POS system you check out newspapers, magazines and small purchases in seconds, add a new magazine as soon as it arrives and know which titles really sell.

At a newsagent's, most customers come in for something small: their daily paper, a weekly, a greeting card or a chocolate bar on the way to work. New issues fill the racks every week, and every evening the till has to add up. Onlinefact runs on a Windows touchscreen or computer behind your counter; titles, stock and figures are managed in the browser. You can test it free for 30 days or first ask for a no-obligation demo.

New issues in your system without manual work

Magazines change issue all the time, and sometimes a delivery contains a title you do not know yet. If you scan a barcode the till does not recognise, you create the product on the spot, without going to the back office first. Does one title come with several barcodes? Link them all to the same product. That keeps your item list tidy, even with hundreds of titles on the racks.

  • Unknown barcode becomes a new product at once
  • Several barcodes under one title
  • Titles sorted by category

A morning at your newsagent's

The first hours after opening often set the tone for the day. This is how they go with Onlinefact.

  1. Right after opening
You start the till day and enter how much change is in the drawer. That opening amount shows up straight away in your cash overview.
  2. During the morning rush
A queue of commuters wants a paper and a bottle of water, fast. You scan, the customer pays by card and the next receipt is already open.
  3. A little later
The distributor drops off new magazines. A title you did not stock yet is created simply by scanning its barcode.
  4. Late morning
A regular has his loyalty card scanned with his weekly and sees his points on the customer display.
  5. At closing time
You close the day with a Z report and see what came in per payment method.

Why newsagents choose Onlinefact

  • Fast checkout

Scan or tap a button, even for items without a barcode.

  • Rounding to 5 cents

    Cash totals are rounded automatically.

  • Loyalty card for regular readers

Points or a discount for people who pick up their paper every day.

  • Gift vouchers

Sold at the counter, redeemable later in several parts.

  • Even without internet

If the connection drops, you simply keep selling.

Small amounts, short queues

A newspaper, a pack of chewing gum, a greeting card: per customer it is often just a few euros. You scan packaged items, and for loose sales without a barcode you set up buttons on the touchscreen with a fixed or an open price. Newspapers, magazines and other items do not all carry the same VAT rate, and the till splits this correctly on the receipt. When someone pays in cash, Onlinefact rounds the total to 5 cents and shows you at once how much change to give.

  • Buttons with a fixed or open price
  • Right VAT per item on the receipt
  • Change shown in large figures

Knowing which titles sell

Not every magazine does equally well in your neighbourhood. Because every sale updates your stock, the reports per product and per period show which titles fly off the rack and which stay untouched. Does your distributor collect the unsold copies? Put your stock right with a stock count document. With the Onlinefact Inventory web app you scan your racks and adjust stock or price on the spot.

Questions newsagents ask us

Can I sell items without a barcode?

Yes. You create buttons on the touchscreen, with a fixed price or a price you type in at each sale, and you choose the right VAT rate.

What if my internet connection fails during the rush?

The till keeps selling and sends the receipts as soon as the connection is back. Online payment methods such as Bancontact Pay only work again once you are back online.

Can several people work on the same till?

Yes. Each staff member logs in with their own PIN code, so it is always clear who made which receipt.

Do I pay more if I add a second till?

No, the number of workstations is unlimited. You do pay for the hardware itself, which you buy or rent through Onlinefact.

By card or with Bancontact Pay

Even for a newspaper costing a few euros, customers want to pay with their card or smartphone. Onlinefact sends the amount straight to your payment terminal, so there is nothing to type and no typing errors. Choose from terminals by CCV, Worldline, Payworld and SumUp, among others, which you buy or rent through Onlinefact. With Bancontact Pay your customer scans a QR code with the right amount already filled in.

  • No amounts typed on the terminal
  • Buy or rent the terminal through Onlinefact
  • QR code with the amount already filled in

Regular readers and business customers

Someone who picks up their paper from you every morning deserves a reward. With a barcode loyalty card your customer collects points or gets a percentage discount on the next purchase, and the balance is printed on the receipt. Does an office or a waiting room buy its magazines from you? Create an invoice in the company's name straight from the till. Once you enter the VAT number, Onlinefact fills in the company details itself, and your accountant receives your invoices automatically every day.

  • Points for every daily paper
  • Invoice in the company's name from the till
  • Company details fetched via the VAT number
