What is PEPPOL?
PEPPOL ("Pan-European Public Procurement Online") is a global and highly secure digital network for the exchange of electronic files between companies, organisations and governments. Those files are formatted or converted into a universal language (the "UBL" or "Universal Business Language"), such as the .xml format. That is why a PEPPOL invoice, is also called a UBL invoice or xml invoice. That standardised document format, allows senders and recipients to read and process.xml documents automatically.
So how does the PEPPOL network operate?
To ensure secure file transfer, the PEPPOL network operates through authorised Access Points. You can compare these to digital postal companies. Onlinefact is linked to these as a service provider. We upload the PEPPOL invoices you create via your trusted Onlinefact invoicing package to the PEPPOL network and the Access Points ensure that they end up in the correct digital mailbox. Each mailbox has a unique identification number for this purpose (the "PEPPOL identicator"). You only need to identify your company once via your Belgian company number or international GLN number to register for free in the global PEPPOL user list.

Who's using PEPPOL?
Do you want to send invoices to the government? If so, it is already mandatory in many European countries to do so through the PEPPOL invoicing system. Companies are also choosing to use the PEPPOL system among themselves both within and outside Europe. Every PEPPOL user is registered in the international PEPPOL directory with a unique identification number ("identicator"). You only need to identify your company once via your Belgian company number or your international GLN number to receive and send invoices via PEPPOL from now on.
